Etterna Charts

Difficulties are based on Etterna's MSD but are not necessarily equivalent.

Banners are made by opening the original banner in paint.net, resizing them to 256x80, and setting the bit-depth to 1. I originally was doing this to reduce the size of the images, but it also had the neat side effect of producing a cohesive aesthetic. Do note that the banners used in-game are not the same as these.

Other places to find my charts:

You are free to do whatever you want with my charts. You can release them in your pack, convert them to other games, modify them, whatever. You could even take credit for them; though you would get found out fairly easily, and I think that'd ruin the point for most people.

This may sound extreme, but realize that by making charts to songs we usually treat the artist's work by these exact same rules. Also realize that there is hardly anything you can do to prevent people from doing any of these things once you have made your chart public anyway.

If you yourself are a charter and this still bothers you, ask yourself why you're releasing charts. Is it because you want to share something you think people would enjoy? If so, you shouldn't be bothered by this, as none of the above prevents people from enjoying your chart.

Hard 27

Do you remember?

Gorilla jacks, stream bursts and some gluts/light cj. Made in an hour or two since I noticed the date.

Second Strike

Hard 20

2024/09/20

The chart I actually made for the FFR stepcon. Minijack jumpstream and gluts with some bursts.

Originally, this was looped with a different arrow color palette for the second half. I wanted the chart to loop, but just playing the chart twice would be boring, and I didn't particularly want to mirror or invert the patterns due to it disrupting PR. I also felt it was thematically fitting; the track was made with Famitracker, and Famicom/NES games liked to sometimes just use palette swaps for progression of enemies/environments. I had no idea how the idea would be received since I haven't seen a chart do this before, but I figured it was worth a try.

Unfortunately, people didn't really seem to like this idea, even if they liked the rest of the chart. So, the chart I'm releasing simply cuts it to one loop. The original chart .sm with the color theory is still included if you're interested however.

Even though it didn't pay off, I think it was still worth trying the gimmick. Better to take advantage of a chance for impartial feedback of a new technique than to play it safe and likely not learn anything new.

Picking out GFX for this was a bit tricky, because due to being a Soundcloud single with no art I didn't have much to go off of. I decided to look for something retrofuturistic due to the 8-bit sound, and something space-ish due to the name (And the strong association of space shooters with 80s video games). Unfortunately, finding good art using modern sites and search engines is impossible, so I ended up finding the art used for this from:

  1. Searching "space" on Wiby
  2. Coming across this link repository, with most of the links dead
  3. Accessing an archive of Dreams of Space: Space Art in Children's Books from the Fifties to the Seventies
  4. Finding the image in Planets, Stars, and Space in the LIFTOFF 1957-1960 section.

PICKMEUP!

Hard 14

2024/09/17

Abstract-ish easy light jumpstream chart. Actually was made 2024/08/24, but it was preemptively done in case I got this track for the FFR Stepcon, so I held onto it for a bit. I didn't end up getting the track, but I'm still pretty happy with how this turned out.

Fungus Dance

Easy 24

2024/09/17

Chordjacks and some tricky polyrhythm jumpstream bursts. Actually was made 2024/06/29, but it was supposed to be for the FFR official tournament so I withheld releasing it while waiting for feedback.

Sonata for seven keys -D-sharp minor-

Hard 14

2024/08/07

Minimalist chart to the winner of the first BOF contest, 20 years ago. It's interesting how a classical piece managed to win, not what you would expect popular rhythm game music to be.

Was considering parodying Kil's CDTitle for this. Not just because this is the sort of music he would chart, but also because I patterned some sections with the idea of the chart progressing from left to right kind of like pop'n charts, which I heard Kil did fairly often in a certain old document.

White Light / White Heat

Edit 18

2024/07/26

Another track I've planned on charting for a really long time, but until now I was never able to figure out how to go about syncing it.

16th jumpstream dump with some 24th bursts. Maybe I'll make a minipack of easier dumps soon, there isn't really any easy dump pack that I know of.

Neolights

Medium 18

2024/07/21

Originally my approach back in early 2021 that I wanted to do for this chart was some kind of dump, but eventually I realized this would be a pretty fun stamina jumpstream chart in the vein of Zaghurim's Another Planet or Moulin Rogue. Or like April's DnB files for a more modern example. Anyway, this chart's pretty repetitive, but I hope I introduced enough variation in the patterning that it doesn't feel excessive.

2024/07/24 Update: Toned down the jump chains at the start and made the section less repetitive.

Sat In Your Lap

Believe it or not, I've had this on the backlog to chart for around 6 years now. Nice to finally have it done for Ptet's upcoming pack.

24th dense jumpstream and some aggressive 32nd vocal streams similar to Pluto. Also some fun surprises towards the end.

Happy 20th anniversary, Yume Nikki.

Really happy that Camellia not only revisted this remix but significantly improved it, was always one of my favorite tracks of his. I had low expectations due to the direction Camellia's music has taken in recent years but I don't think this could've been done any better.

I hope you enjoy this chart as much as I do, I think this is one of my best recent ones. Dense jumpstream with some light tech and stream bursts mixed in.

Momentary Life ~ Baiken's Theme

Hard 17

2024/06/15

Straightforward technical chart, I just wanted to play a chart of this.

Murmur twins

Hard 18

2024/06/12

Another easyish abstract chart, with a lot of 16th streams to held vocals. Wanted a chart of this since I thought Toph's old chart was a bit bland.

Pinch Me

Beginner 26

2024/06/07

Channeling my inner Mina 1. Stupid polys in the chorus, 48th streams in the verses. Has a notable ending spike I think, so be prepared for that to possibly ruin scores.

DRAGONLADY

Insane 29

Actually the HEARTLESS sabun/arrangement. Whole bunch of (anti-fun)ny patterns. Wish there were more BMS charts like this that did complete rearrangements, they're always cool to see.

Hell Scaper -Last Escape Remix-

Hard 18

2024/03/31

Abstract-ish light jumpstream file. Nothing too special here; I just wanted a chart of this to play.

LION SUKI

Hard 15

2024/03/29

Chart I made for myself. Very much inspired by Toph/Kil/Zagh charting, with it not necessarily following the music closely.

Improvising rhythms in easier charts is extremely underrated IMO, it's a great way to convey the spirit of dump charting without the restrictions on difficulty. It might be worthwhile to make an article about this sometime.

Pluto

Insane 32

2024/03/22

Nasty hard file for nasty hard song. I thought I overdid the 32nd vocal dumping at the end, but people seem to like it.
